Electricity Access for 14,000 Solomon Islanders

GPRBA's second project in Oceania provides sustainable and affordable electricty connections to this small island nation. This feature story describes the difficulties faced by service providers to connect residents, who live in primarily isolated rural households geographically spread out over many islands and the benefits and enhanced quality of life resulting from connecting to this important basic service.  
Recent Projects
Nearly Half a Million People to Gain Access to Solar Power

GPRBA and ESMAP joined efforts in this $3.45 million project to bring clean energy to about 450,000 first-time customers in rural Myanmar; this is the first GPRBA-supported subsidy project in the country.  
Helping At-Risk Children Attend School in Ghana 

To help Ghana's educational system cope with the COVID-19 pandemic, GPRBA collaborated with the Global Partnership for Education to improve academic standards, training and re-integrate out-of-school students into the classroom. 
New Publications 
RBF Through Social Enterprises: A Response to COVID-19

During the COVID-19 pandemic, international development agencies are seeking to adjust their focus to help reduce the spread of the virus and mitigate its negative ancillary effects. This GPRBA "white paper" addresses how RBF can be used through social enterprises as a solution to face the unanticipated challenges during this crisis and in its aftermath. 
Bangladesh Sanitation Case Study

GPRBA has contributed to the national government's goal of meeting the high demand for safe and improved hygienic sanitation by bringing within reach affordable and accessible household toilet facilities. This report details how the program succeeded in reaching over 776,000 low-income beneficiaries. 
Report on Nepal Solid Waste Management Pilot

In 2013, we initiated support for our second project in solid waste management. This report describes the successful accomplishment of targeted outcomes in service delivery and financial sustainability in five cities.

This piece originally appeared in a World Bank blog, showcasing this joint GPRBA-IFC project from 2019 -- a pioneering effort to provide water to Tanzanian rural households through solar-powered pumps.

Smart Power Myanmar produced this video in conjunction with the launch of its report: "Decentralized Energy Market Assessment in Myanmar." Both products describe the hurdles and solutions to expanding access to electricity to first-time consumers. 
Social Outcomes Conference 
The Social Outcomes Conference 2020 (Sept. 1-4) featured our colleagues Sameh Wabha, Maitreyi Bordia Das, and Inga Afanasieva in three different sessions. They discussed the increased focus the World Bank and GPRBA are putting on improving outcomes for low-income communities and the launch of the Outcomes Fund.
